Hi, how are you? We’ve arrived in London – so far so good! Had a 1 hour nap the first afternoon and it seems to have helped with the jet lag. That’s not to say that I’ve escaped scot-free. With that in (my muddy) mind, here’s a little list of things I’ve learned in my first 24 hrs in London.
- Quick airport goodbyes are better than long ones
- Wimbledon Common is not a massive park but more like a big bush – much more fun for womble spotting
- Cider goes well with a traditional roast pork pub lunch – discovered at a country pub in London
- You can go horse riding several places in and around the city . The first and last time I rode a horse I fell off it. It had something to do with the fact the horse was blind in one eye. I’m keen to try again soon and will do the necessary check.
- The streets of Putney are empty at 5am on a Sunday morning when you need to walk off the energy from an early jet lag rise
- Gwyneth Paltrow’s pizza base recipe is good
- The food is cheap! We picked up some dinner ingredients and the total at the end was a nice surprise. Thanks AUD.
- My comfort purchase of Perfect Potion Pillow Spray was a good one – I don’t sleep easily in new places but with a few sprays of this I’m always guaranteed a good sleep! It works!
- Despite what I’d been told the sun DOES shine here
- The late setting of the sun is confusing at first but I’m loving it now

What a wonderful apartment! Hope you have much happiness there. We have sun in Manly today, beautiful as ever, but if you are lucky enough to get the evening sun in England, it makes for a perfect evening!
