This weekend past was our third weekend in London. After 10 days of real estate frustration we decided it was time to retreat somewhere for a little rest and relaxation.
Windsor and Eton is a short train ride from where we’re staying with friends in Putney and sounded like an ideal English mini-break. We got online, booked through a discount online booking engine, couldn’t believe our luck at the hotel (and rate!) we’d scored and jumped on the train.
30 minutes later we arrived, took in the view of Windsor Castle and congratulated ourselves on a place well picked. Turned up to the hotel to check in, show our confirmation and we’re told that the website has confirmed a room that isn’t available. In fact, there’s an event on in town that weekend and there are no rooms at all available. Can’t. Even. Believe. It.*
Long story short, the manager of the hotel called around, booked us into an equally gorgeous nearby hotel and picked up the difference in the bill. We had a lovely weekend and thanks to the manager’s outstanding customer service (it was actually the booking websites fault) I left my first ever review for a product/service.
Do you leave reviews? What’s caused you to act and spread the word?
*Definitely a case of first-world-problems of course, but obviously not what we were looking for in a relaxing weekend away.

I left my very first hotel review a few months ago. Only it was because of shocking service, lack of hotel amenities and when we booked we were never told that the hotel was under massive renovations & had no restaurant, bar or room service!! The rooms were new but so new they hadn’t unlocked or stocked the new mini bar fridge, no coathangers, no hotel info book, nothing!!

I would love to stay in either of those rooms. That was great service and deserved a good review. Often it is only when you are annoyed with the service that you leave a review but we should remember to reward good service as well.
Lovely shot of the castle.

Wow. Love the rooms. I visit Windsor Castle in two weeks time but I can’t claim to be staying in such gorgeous accommodation.
I occasionally leave reviews for both good and bad experiences. Although I didn’t give this to the owner I wrote a two-part review for a local business and put them on my new blog: http://bit.ly/j1onRy and http://bit.ly/ksvmc3.
Hope you’re enjoying your wonderful adventure.
