Online Shop Inspiration: Elephantine

I’m taking notice of product photography these days for a few reasons and I had to share this example by Etsy store, Elephantine.

Here are the boxes it ticks:

  • Simple styling with textured backgrounds in a complementary colour
  • Clear images of the product
  • Close up detail
  • Human touch

Are there any brands that you admire the photography of? What’s your biggest challenge with taking product photographs?

    Hi Clare,

I agree I like the human touch to these product photos as well as the textured background – normally not a fan of using textured backgrounds in product photos however Elephantine has achieved the look without detracting from the product, it gives you more idea on the scale of the product.
Recently I have tried my hand at photographing my stock at home for my business (clothing) with tips off the web, and whilst they have come out just ok (after many, many, tries and a few gymnastic moves) I have had a real hard time with getting the lighting/shadows/white background etc right. I then use iphoto or Picnik (I unfortunately don’t have photoshop!)to edit them to try to get it right however it’s still not 100%.

Any thoughts/suggestions on how else I may be able to achieve this would be most appreciated.

    Thanks for the post. :)

  1. Hi Ren, I think so much of product photography is good lighting. I’ve got to photograph bottles for a new website and was planning on creating a cheap diy light box to try to get the best results. If you google it you’ll find a few articles about how to do it.
