Bio The path that led her to this point
I accidentally fell into the digital marketing world.
A few years out of uni and I had been working in the marketing industry for a health based biotech company.
I started getting itchy feet about two years into the job and was ready for my next challenge when I applied for a role as an account manager in a digital marketing agency.
I didn't even know what an account manager was yet I somehow landed the job.
I realised very quickly that I loved the internet and everything it had to offer, especially social media.
I spent 7 years working my way up the ladder in digital agencies working for clients in industries from education, to telecommunications, to health and finance.
There are two aspects to the digital world that I love the most - running web projects and creating content.
I decided I wanted to be that person for hire and help other companies who may not have the resources in-house to do it themselves.
My outside interest in fashion blogging has given me an solid education in harnessing your community and the value of high quality content.
I have a designer and developer that work with me when required and our motto is "the best, smartest use of technology starts and ends with the user."
Q&A Insider advice & tips
What's been your greatest achievement to date?
A campaign called Top Geek which I worked with iiNet to launch.
It was a hugely successful campaign for them and a lot of work for me! But it was so great to see how harnessing their community really paid off for them.
What's been your biggest challenge so far?
To back myself. Believe that I can do it and have the confidence to put myself out there!
Best lesson you've learned along the way?
There is a silver lining in failures.
There have been many times when I've been disappointed that things didn't go to plan or a client I had been banking on has pulled the pin but it's usually for the right reason and sometimes it just takes a little time to work that out.
A website, book or resource that has helped you in your business or inspired you and why?
I follow so many blogs it’s hard to keep up! But Seth Godin always has good advice and Twitter is a great source to find opinion leaders in your field who dish out inspiration on a daily basis.
Which person or brand do you most admire and why?
Lululemon Athletica is a brand that I really admire.
They have stuck to their core and I appreciate their commitment to research and product development. And anything that makes shlepping around the house in sweats look good is ok by me!
What advice would you give someone starting an independent business in your industry?
Don’t be afraid to back yourself and don’t let it get you down when things don’t go your way.
It’s can be easier said than done but pick yourself up and move right on to the next challenge.
